REDD+ stands for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation, plus the sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks. It is an international framework that rewards keeping forests standing and healthy.

It is the scientific process of measuring how much carbon a forest holds — in trees, roots, deadwood, litter and soil. This measurement is the foundation for calculating and selling verified carbon credits.

When measurable, verified emission reductions are achieved — for example by preventing deforestation — those reductions can be issued as carbon credits. Each credit represents one tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent avoided or removed.

Revenue from credits is designed to flow back to the forest-dependent communities who protect the forest, alongside reinvestment in sustainable forest management and monitoring.

We use standards-aligned measurement, reporting and verification (MRV), field-verified sample plots, all five IPCC carbon pools, quantified uncertainty and independent third-party verification.

The programme spans forest landscapes across all 26 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, from alpine conifer forests in the north to sub-tropical zones in the south.
